A Prestigious program named Joint Forest Management (JFM) started in 1992 by the Forest Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh.
The objective of the project is to protect forests through implementation of soil-water conservation works by involving local communities. The project has successfully implemented in Karimnagar district also. In continuation of this project the second phase project was started in the state as well as Karimnagar district in the name of Community Forest Management (CFM).
The objective of the project is to promote sustainable forest management practices through local communities with the help of non-governmental organizations. Krushi was appointed project facilitating agency for implementation of the project in the villages in Ellareddypet mandal of Karimnagar district.
The Krushi personnel are working hard in sensitizing the Vana Samrakshana Samithis towards sustainable forest management practices. In ten villages several training camps were organized for the board members of the committees on forest conservation and management practices.
Now tree felling is banned in villages. People are voluntarily protecting the forests and gradually the “peoples forestry” concept is developing among the communities in the villages.
